Education Message: August 2010
The Religious School year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 21st with a Sukkah Party. Since the High Holidays are early this year we would request that the Parents and children discuss the central theme of the High Holidays of their behavior last year and how they would improve this year. . An evaluation of what we were last year and how we can we become better persons this coming year.
We have exciting plans to renew our commitment to Judaism which has lasted over 5000 years. We are planning some unusual programs with new innovations in Hebrew learning. Our teachers are planning new and various activities for everyone.
One of our adults spent time at Camp Colemen and said it was the most rewarding experience he ever had. What will try to do is to recreated a camp like setting at the Religious School. Some of the topics we will cover would be Israel, Jewish History, Bible, Hebrew, Holidays and Custom and Ceremonies.
We look forward for us to be together to actively live Judaism all the time.
Meet the teachers will be held on Thursday Sept. 2 (note the correct date) at 7:00 P.M. at the Sandpiper School Cafeteria. If your child is enrolled please attend. Anyone interested in our school is invited as well. If you are a parent interested in possibly enrolling your child please RSVP to me so we can expect you.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Brand, Education Director of Temple Beth Shira

Goals
The goals we set for our Religious School at Temple Beth Shira
use our heritage, traditions and history to make our lives today more meaningful,
while encouraging commitment to Jews the world over. We want the students to use
the books that we order to develop a Jewish Library of their own while learning
from these text books during the class.
Worship
A positive attitude toward prayer and worship is reated through mastery of
blessings, prayers and music and being able to read and understand
our prayer book.
Ethics and Values
An appreciation of the contributions of Jewish tradion can influence one's
personal life to apply the value of our Jewish heritage to the issues of every
day living in our complex world.
Ceremonies
By instilling a positive regard and respect of ceremony in a
religious life (traditions) through familiarity with the Jewish religious
calendar, person habits of ceremonial observance are embraced by actively
participating in a wide array of Jewish practice.
Hebrew
A concern and appreciation is developed for the special importance of
the Hebrew Language in the life of the Jewish people in the United State,
Israel and the world over. Students learn the Hebrew Language,
encouraging its use in prayer.
The Jewish People
Students develop a sense of identification with the Jewish people by
actively participating in many aspects of the Jewish community, by
acquiring knowledge of Jewish life in America, past and present, and by
understanding the importance of the State of Israel and its history.
Theology
Developing a personal religious orientation and commitment through an
understanding of the problems that have universally concerned mankind: studying
how the Jewish people have dealt with these problems in the past and the
importance of Reform Judaism's contributions in this important
area.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Preparation for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah is provided by our spiritual
Leader Cantor Ellen Stettner.
